America the Beautiful: Her freedom wasn’t free. When I hear Diamond Doug, a relatively unknown performer, sing ‘America the Beautiful’, the richness, conviction and power in his voice captures the true meaning of this song. ‘America the Beautiful’ is also a memorial to all our forgotten heroes who have lost their lives fighting for the freedoms we have today. This song always brings tears to my eyes.kids.niehs.nih.gov/lyrics/america.htm

What has happened to America – a great nation born in struggle, independence, freedom of spirit and sacrifice. That is the soul of my America – and not what it has become. ‘American the Beautiful’ – her freedom wasn’t free as witnessed in the picture above.  Our founding fathers, no doubt, are rolling over in their graves at the whiners and “I want my freebie” that many Americans have become. The early pioneers worked hard for what little they had. America is an amalgam of many nationalities, i.e., Jews, Irish, Scotch, British, German, Italian, Indian, Native Americans, Latinos, Africans, Chinese, Koreans and many others too numerous to mention – so what is an American? America represents all nationalities.spofga.org/build/2009/may/our_country_part_1.php

I no longer recognize my country. I grew up proud to be an American and was taught to stand on my own two feet. I was taught that no body owed me anything. I was taught that if I wanted anything, I had to earn it. I was taught in school about the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I was proud to be called an American when we beat the Nazis, the Fascists and, at great sacrifice in human lives, America made the world safe for democracy. I was also proud when President George Bush made Iraq a safer country where rape rooms no longer existed and women were no longer pulled off the street for Saddam Hussein’s pleasure. And yes – I do believe that weapons of mass destruction are still there! Say what you will about George Bush – but he kept this country safe for 8 years. Have people so quickly forgotten 911? George Bush became a wartime President before his first year in office had ended. He stepped up to the mark and God forbid this new President has to walk in his shoes. President Obama talks the talk with the aid of the Obama Teleprompter. The question is, given the 911 circumstances, can he walk the walk? Personally, I don’t think much of any President going abroad and apologizing for America….the same nation that has come to the aid of any country in need. This is the country whose blood is buried deep in European soil – where they are free today to hate America because our soldiers died for their freedom! And what do Americans receive for those lost lives: a single digit salute!

America the Beautiful: Her freedom wasn’t free. God bless our troops, their families and all the sacrifices they made in order that you and I can get that barbecue out today – and not give a second thought to those forgotten heroes. Memorial Day isn’t just about chillin and having a day off – it’s about prayer and gratitude. America the Beautiful: Her freedom wasn’t free.
