The Young President rides the train to DC for inaugural kickoff. President Elect Barack Obama rolled into the Washington DC Saturday night after committing to bring the nation a new Declaration of Independence. He retraced the steps that Abraham Lincoln took by taking the symbolic day long train ride from Philadelphia to DC. The American people’s level of excitement over Obama’s appeals to “not allow our easy instincts but to our better angels” guide us – were echos of Lincoln’s first inaugural address. Then, sobered by the challenges of governing, Joe Biden, the Vice President, made the remark, “I think it’s Wednesday we need to be ready.”
The highest percentage of Americans wish him well – even knowing that he has little experience in government and enormous challenges that await him. Yet, man’s dreams override the reality and, at this juncture , it is the dream of a better future that is taking precedence over the reality of a young President whom we know little about and who has no experience in governing. Americans just like him – and for the moment, it appears that is enough. I think this young President and his family riding the train to DC for the inaugural kickoff is putting a smile on America’s face…
something we all need.
Good luck Mr. President
