The legendary Edith Piaf singing- La vie en rose – was one of the most popular songs of it’s time -  now has been made into a movie. There isn’t enough space on this page to describe her life – raised in a Normandy brothel run by her grandmother and from the age of 3 – 7, Edith  Piaf was blind as the result of keratitis. Her life is such a train wreck that it’s hard to imagine how she survived 47 years of hard living and international fame. She had many lovers – including Yves Montand, she used drugs, she sang for the Germans during the occupation – thus creating much controversy as the French condemned her for being a traitor. But Edith Piaf – like her American counterparts, Billy Holiday and Judy Garland – aren’t remembered for the sadness of their lives but rather the joy they gave to people of many nations.
